Paverne Johannes Paul II og Johannes XXIII skal helgenkåres på søndag. I Rom og verden over forbereder katolikker sig til den store dag

Søndag den 27. april helgenkårer den katolske kirke for første gang nogensinde to paver på en gang. Det er de afdøde paver Johannes Paul II og Johannes XXIII, der skal helgenkåres med to milliarder mennesker verden over som tilskuere.

Op mod fem millioner rejsende og pilgrimme forventes at lægge vejen forbi Rom i anledning af helgenkåringen. Men over hele verden gøres der i øjeblikket forberedelser til den store dag, der samler katolikker til fest verden over.

At erklære både Johannes XXIII og Johannes Paul II for helgener betyder, at to markante trosskoler knyttes sammen til, hvad en pave skal være: en ydmyg sognepræst og en karismatisk globetrottende superstjerne.

Pave Johannes XXIII regerede fra 1958 til 1963 og moderniserede den katolske kirke med det 2. Vatikankoncil. Pave Johannes Paul II, der regerede i næsten 27 år før sin død i 2005, var en af de mest synlige paver i historien med sine ture rundt i hele verden.
